Nefertiti Shakes It

Nefertiti Shakes It

Queen Nefertiti of New Kingdom Egypt is shaking her stuff!

Part of the pose (specifically her hands being held out) comes from an actual Egyptian tomb mural, but the shaking part is my own improvisation of course.

The image linked to shows an object now in Room 61 at the British Museum, London. It’s hard to believe Nefertiti, Akhenaten’s wife, would have allowed herself to be seen doing this in public, because the tomb image shows it being performed by a servant-girl. (Maybe she did it in private, or with only her husband watching.) The blue headpiece must be after the bust of Nefertiti found in the sculptor Thutmose’s studio at el-Amarna.
