Cowgirl Hathor

Cowgirl Hathor

This is my portrait of the Egyptian goddess Het-heru, or Hathor. She’s commonly described as Egypt’s resident love and fertility goddess, which would make her their equivalent to the likes of Aphrodite, Oshun, or Freyja. But she’s also recognized for her cow motif, and since cows aren’t an animal I consider “sexy”, I didn’t want to make her particularly bovine in appearance. Instead I opted for a “cowgirl” look with a Stetson hat.

As an aside, some historians estimate that as many as one in four cowboys in Texas were African-American back in the Wild West days.
