Egyptian Table of Nations

table-of-nations

This chart is based off the so-called “Table of Nations” found in a number of ancient Egyptian tombs, which contrast the native Egyptians from neighboring foreign nations. In these murals the Egyptians would conventionally portray themselves as dark mahogany- or cocoa-brown, the Kushites to their south as literally jet-black (rather like how South Sudanese today are perceived), the Libyan Berbers to their northwest as fairer-skinned, and the “Asiatic” Middle Easterners as a light tawny-brown. Basically I wanted to translate these murals into my own art style.
