Queen Tiye and the Lotus Flower

Queen Tiye was the politically influential Great Royal Wife of the Egyptian Pharaoh Amenhotep III during the New Kingdom period. She would have been the “Heretic” Pharaoh Akhenaten’s mother and King Tut’s grandma. Here she’s treating herself to the scent of a lotus flower, which in Egyptian culture symbolized rebirth and the sun.
